Home maintenance is an important part of home ownership. It keeps all of the working parts of the home running smoother and more efficient. It also keeps your home safer and prevents costly repairs down the road. Provided here are some helpful tips to keep your home safe, sound and beautiful for many years to come.


  1. HVAC Filters Clean or replace air filters monthly to prevent the unit from malfunctioning.

  2. HVAC Gas Furnace If you have a gas furnace, an authorized technician should inspect it once a year for proper functioning an venting.

  3. Cabinets Wipe down wood cabinets with a non-abrasive cleaner as needed. Apply lubricant to drawers and hinges to prevent rusting and sticking.

  4. Carpet Vacuum weekly. Professional clean carpets as needed. You might want to check with the carpet manufacturer to get specifics on what type of cleaning is recommended for your carpeting type. The wrong cleaning treatment could potentially void the manufactures warranty.

  5. Countertops Always clean with a non-abrasive cleaner. Check caulk at the joint lines and repair as necessary.

  6. Disposal Always use cold water when running the disposal. Add a handful of ice cubes to a running disposal to clean any debris on a monthly basis.

  7. Fireplace Have a professional clean and inspect your fireplace flu annually. This will prevent any buildup, which can cause poor drafting.

  8. Roof Have a roofing professional inspect your roof every three years. If a leak occurs, call a professional right away. Never remove flashing or roof tiles.

  9. Waterheater Keep your water heater at a reasonable temperature, about 130 degrees. Drain the hot water heater once a year to remove any residue and settled debris.
